Enhancing Underwater Operations with SeaTrac’s SP-48 USV Surface Relay Platforms

Underwater missions—whether for defense, scientific research, or offshore industry—are often constrained by limited real-time communication and imprecise positioning. SeaTrac Systems’ solar-powered, long-endurance Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs) offer a robust and scalable solution by acting as persistent, mobile surface relays that bridge the gap between underwater assets and remote operators. This presentation will explore how SeaTrac’s SP-48 platform enhances subsea operations by hosting best-in-class communications and positioning systems, including acoustic modems and Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) systems. By station-keeping directly above, or maneuvering in coordination with, submerged vehicles and seafloor sensors, the SP-48 relays critical data to shore via RF or satellite links while improving subsea asset localization. We will highlight recent deployments where SeaTrac USVs supported underwater communication networks and acoustic telemetry systems, underscoring their value in reducing latency, extending operational range, and increasing mission success rates. SeaTrac’s USVs offer a low-logistics, energy-efficient platform that enables persistent, real-time awareness and control in support of advanced underwater operations.
