In 2025, MATE in partnership with NOAA OE once again challenged students to use their programming skills to evaluate archive videos to identify key aspects from those videos. This year’s AI challenge focused on shipwreck videos found in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Student teams created AI programs to help identify various characteristics of the shipwrecks located beneath the waves of the Sanctuary.
