Distributed optical fiber sensing technology has found broad applications for energy and infrastructure monitoring across a wide range of sectors. Potential applications for distributed optical fiber sensing in marine infrastructure monitoring, marine vehicles, and mobile marine sensing platforms will be discussed. The presentation will place an emphasis on active research and development efforts seeking to develop multiparameter distributed optical fiber sensing technology specifically targeted for a range of marine sensing applications including temperature, acoustic, and chemical sensing functionalities. In addition to the development of new and tailored functionality, the presentation will also discuss integration with the Bristlemouth open standard for accelerated adoption of distributed optical fiber sensing in the marine and offshore application environments.
