At Lidan Marine, we are committed to driving innovation and excellence in the maritime sector, and our SKARV is a testament to that commitment. With its features and capabilities for uncrewed operations, the SKARV is developed to enable marine survey operations and to open new possibilities for exploration and research.”
The SKARV products represent a significant leap forward in autonomous operations, offering cutting-edge capabilities and performance. We believe this mission package will empower the market to conduct more efficient and cost-effective operations, ultimately driving advancements in maritime exploration and resource management towards a Net Zero energy sector.
The inspiration for the SKARV came from observing nature. Our team wondered about the challenges of successfully launching and recovering a high-tech tow fish safely from a boat at speed. We questioned whether an affordable solution could be engineered to reliably ‘fish’ sensitive equipment from the sea and sought an expert to learn from. Our search led us to the Swedish archipelago, where we found an expert in abundance: the SKARV, the Swedish name for the Cormorant bird. This bird is a reliable and consistently successful angler, embodying the reliability and consistency needed to ‘catch’ side scan sonars safely.
We at Lidan Marine asked ourselves what makes a Cormorant bird so successful and whether those capabilities could be emulated into a smart product line for tow fish handling. This question sparked the journey from this fishing bird to the development of their new product, the SKARV.
Together with multiple industry partners we will work towards commercial proof of concept demonstrations of both the uncrewed and crewed operations. These collaboration aims to push the boundaries of offshore data acquisition, providing significant environmental and cost benefits.
