Beginning January 1, 2024 the revised IMO diving safety code will require organizations that dive from ships to have OH&S management systems tailored to the unique risks and controls of occupational diving. Additionally, ship operators will need to adapt vessel SMS to incorporate provisions for conducting safe diving activities. This presentation will offer insight into the goal based rules of the revised safety code and offer guidance for implementing a comprehensive OH&S management system to achieve those goals.

Awareness and familiarization with the new IMO Code of Safety for Diving Operations, and the expected impact and demands the organizations will need to achieve to comply with the safety management system objectives of the code. Each stakeholder in diving operations, such as the national maritime administrations, vessel operators, diving organizations, class societies, and clients of diving will have a role in meeting requirements of the code. This presentation will clarify those details.
