For the first time in 25 years, the United States Coast Guard has welcomed a new polar icebreaker into its fleet—though “new” comes with a caveat: the vessel was built in 2012 and is serving as an interim solution to support the aging fleet until the Polar Security Cutters are delivered.
To meet the urgent need for modern Arctic vessels, a strategic partnership between Bollinger Shipyards and Edison Chouest Offshore led to the formation of the United Shipbuilding Alliance (USA). This alliance is emerging as a leading model in the revitalization of U.S. shipbuilding.
Through streamlined processes and a collaborative approach, the alliance is working with speed and precision to enable delivery of the first Polar Security Cutter by 2030.
