Thomas J. Moriarty, PE, CMRP is president of Alidade Maintenance Engineering and Reliability, Inc. (Alidade MER). Alidade MER provides assessments, defined improvements and implementation support for asset management excellence. Tom has been leading Alidade MER in strategic and discrete projects since 2004 in a variety of public and private environments including higher education, U.S. military, maritime, government, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, packaging, aerospace, chemical, mining, oil refining and others. Alidade MER developed the Organizational Reliability Model© and the Productive Leadership Model© as strategies that initiate and sustain results.
Alidade MER has delivered outstanding results for the U.S. Coast Guard, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Canaveral Port Authority, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, University of Michigan, Gulfstream Aerospace, Rio Tinto, MillerCoors, Pactiv, Arkema Chemical, CPS Energy, PGE Power Generation, Tesoro Refining and others.
Tom was a U.S. Coast Guardsman for 24 years, retiring as Executive Officer at the Coast Guard Naval Engineering Support Unit, Portsmouth, VA. Prior to earning his commission, Tom was an enlisted Machinery Technician with hands on maintenance experience for over nine years. Assignments included Maintenance and Logistics Command, Norfolk, VA Section Chief, Icebreakers, Buoy Tenders and Construction Tenders; Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) CONFIDENCE Engineer Officer (chief engineer), Assistant Engineer CGC THETIS, Auxiliary Division Supervisor CGC SPENCER and various coastal search and rescue station assignments. He was also a law enforcement boarding officer and certified emergency medical technician.
In 2003 Tom was honored by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), U.S. Coast Guard Federal Engineer of the Year; selected for his accomplishments in work order planning and scheduling that increased labor effectiveness by 31%. This ‘found’ labor was used to initiate a condition monitoring and precision maintenance program. This included vibration, ultrasound, motor current analysis, infrared, remote optics and precision alignment techniques. The success of the program at Naval Engineering Support Unit, Portsmouth increased fleet reliability and lowered maintenance cost per operational hour. The program was initiated at all Atlantic area NESUs.
Tom is a registered professional engineer (PE) in Florida, a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP; an American National Standards Institute certification) and has various credentials in RCM, Root Cause Analysis and predictive maintenance technologies.
Tom earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Western New England University, and a Professional M.B.A., from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is the past Chair of the Canaveral Section of ASME (2005-2006), member of the Association of Maintenance Professionals, Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (Florida Chapter Board Member, Central East District Director), Tau Beta Pi National Honor Society, and is a monthly contributor to Plant Services Magazine (2010 Gold Award, American Society of Business Publication Editors).
