Shelly Franklin is an Electrical Engineer with Oceaneering’s Technologies (OTECH) division in Hanover, MD. Her passion for robotics began in first grade and grew into a lifelong commitment to STEM and STEM outreach. As a key member of two successful FIRST Robotics teams, she competed at the World Championships six times. Beyond competition, she has continued mentoring youth through coaching a FIRST robotics team, judging for MATE ROV Competition, and helping build a volunteer ROV in partnership with the Annapolis Maritime Museum. She began merging her passion for robotics with her interest in the ocean while pursuing a degree in Ocean Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology. During her time there, she worked in various research labs focused on underwater robotics, corrosion and biofouling control, and coastal protection. She began her professional career with Oceaneering as an intern in the summer of 2022 that would eventually lead her to a full-time position with the company.
