Patrick D. Cahill, President of Shipbuilding CoBot Alliance, is a uniquely qualified SME in ship design, engineering, production, planning and facilities processes and operations. A 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. degree in Naval Architecture, Mr. Cahill has over 40 years of experience that includes nuclear submarine service, shipyard employment at Bath Iron Works and Bender Shipbuilding, software development and implementation as President of ShipConstructor Software USA, and industrial engineering and planning systems development with Knowledge Based Systems, Inc.

Mr. Cahill recently completed 26 years of teaching a short course on Advanced Shipbuilding Technologies and Shipbuilding Information Systems for the MIT Professional Summer Ship Production course. With a focus on developing and implementing technological improvements in shipyards, Mr. Cahill has had the opportunity to work with and/or visit every major shipyard in the U.S., many second and third tier shipyards, over a dozen shipyards in Europe and Japan, and other major industrial giants including Caterpillar, Boeing and Toyota. He has worked directly with steel mills to develop “laser friendly” steel and with multiple academic institutions to solve shipbuilding problems ranging from mitigating residual stress in plate to simulation-based planning tool development.

Mr. Cahill formed Shipbuilding CoBot Alliance in March 2026 and is currently executing a $2.65M grant to accelerate the implementation of Collaborative Robotics in shipbuilding.
