Kevin F. Stone, President of Stone Naval Consulting, is a naval architect specializing in full ship finite element analysis, and the analysis, evaluation, and operation of floating dry docks.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a BSc. in naval architecture, he underwent nuclear power training and served aboard a fast attack submarine. He left active duty and joined the J.J. Henry Company naval architecture firm where he was introduced to floating dry docks. In the years since he has been involved with naval architectural and structural analyses of numerous floating docks ranging from 2,800T to 55,000T lifting capacity as well as the caissons for graving docks. He was responsible for the NAVSEA certification of Bath Iron Works’ floating dry dock built in China.

His finite element expertise has taken him worldwide, consulting with shipyards, naval architects, and naval design authorities on the structural design and analysis of vessels including humble barges, high speed patrol craft, tankers, RO/ROs, offshore supply vessels, and naval combatants. He recently was involved with the full ship & floating dry dock finite element analysis of a USCG national security cutter undergoing major hull repairs while in a floating dry dock. He is a licensed professional engineer in naval architecture & marine engineering.
