James McCarthy is Director of Technical Operations for the US/Canada region for PPG’s Protective and Marine Coatings business unit. In this role James is responsible for managing a team of Technical Service and Support experts, who among many things, work with customers at all levels to provide product recommendations, guidance on product usage, and develop coating specifications to meet the needs of customers in the many markets served by PPG PMC. In addition to his positions in Technical Operations, over the span of his 40+ year career with PPG, Ameron, and other coatings companies, he has held various bench and managerial positions in research and development of Marine coatings and has developed products from Antifouling paints to Zinc-rich coatings, and most everything in between. He holds four patents in the area of polysiloxane coatings and in 2021 was a co-recipient of R&D World magazine’s prestigious R&D 100 Award for new product technology in the area of heat-resistant coatings.
James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
