Dr. Jake Russell is a co-founder and CEO of Orpheus Ocean, a startup developing novel autonomous underwater vehicles for scalable seafloor data collection. Orpheus was born out of Jake’s previous role as Operating Partner with Propeller VC, where he worked in collaboration with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to identify and incubate ocean innovations. Previously, Jake was a Fellow at ARPA-E, where he worked on multi-million dollar funding programs in maritime decarbonization, floating offshore wind, deep sea mining, and ocean CDR. Jake earned his PhD in materials chemistry from Columbia University and a BS from the University of Chicago.
