Dr. Giorgio Caramanna, a seasoned professional with over 30 years of diving experience, has braved some of the most challenging environments, including caves, under the ice, and volcanic areas.
His European Advanced Scientific Diver certifications, American Academy of Underwater Sciences Scientific Diver, NAUI and DAN Instructor, and Italy’s European Scientific Diving Panel representative further prove his expertise.
His background is as a geologist, and he extensively used scuba diving as a tool for his research activity, including his Ph.D. dissertation. In the 2000s, he studied and explored one of the deepest sinkholes in the world (Pozzo del Merro, Italy).
In 2018, he was awarded the “Golden Trident” from the International Academy of Underwater Sciences and Techniques for his contribution to the development of underwater science. He is currently a member of the Academy’s board of directors.
Giorgio is a consultant for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (MA, USA) and an instructor of the Diving Program.
