Christopher M. Parsonage graduated from the University of Missouri in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
After graduation, he began his career with MEMCO Barge Line, Inc., working with MEMCO’s founder and his father, Noble C. Parsonage.
Chris was responsible for directing the operations and strategic growth of MEMCO Barge Line, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, Elmwood Marine Services, Inc. Chris was promoted to President and CEO of MEMCO in 1990, and he led an aggressive expansion of MEMCO and Elmwood Marine's operations prior to MEMCO's sale to American Electric Power in 2001.
Under Chris’s direction MEMCO grew into one of the largest dry cargo barge lines on the inland river system, operating over 1250 hopper barges, and more than 35 towboats.
Chris has held many leadership positions in various marine industry organizations, including becoming Chairman of the American Waterways Operators, and Secretary Treasurer of the Marine Transportation Council.
Chris rejoined the towing industry as President and part owner of Quality Auditing LC “QA,” a professional auditing company providing marine audits in late 2011.
Chris left QA to become the first Executive Director of the Towing Vessel Inspection Bureau “TVIB” on January 1, 2014. TVIB is a non-profit 501 C (6), member owned and operated company, whose mission is to train and certify marine auditors and surveyors for performing AWO RCP audits and Coast Guard Subchapter M compliance audits.
On January 11, 2017, TVIB was recognized as an US Coast Guard Approved Third Party Organization “TPO”, to conduct Audits of Towing Safety Managements Systems to verify compliance with Subchapter M, issue TSMS Certificates, conduct surveys of towing vessels, and issue survey reports detailing results of surveys.
Chris resides in Ballwin, Missouri with his wife Carol.
