Andrew (Andy) Evans is a Geospatial Scientist with more than a decade’s experience in a wide range of environments who joined NCEI in 2023. He currently splits his time between the Uncrewed Systems (UxS) Data Enterprise, Surface Underway Marine Data (SUMD), and aCoastal Monitoring R&D Pilot. Prior to joining NOAA – NCEI, Andy was a contractor at the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command office and a scientist at the Naval Oceanographic Office where he participated in bathymetric surveys along the mid-Atlantic Ridge and the western Pacific Ocean. Andy has previously worked on an eclectic mix of environmental research and development projects including development of a predictive habitat modeling for endangered flying squirrels in the Appalachians, using fixed wing drones to identify sites in Texas for renewable power development, rip current risk assessments in Costa Rica, pre- and
post – Hurricane Harvey near shore and dune environment analysis on Padre Island National Seashore, and utilizing a multitude of manned and unmanned oceanographic sensors. Andy earned his Ph.D., in Geography from Texas A&M University, and holds a Masters Degree in Geography from Virginia Tech, and a B.A. in Geography from the University of New Orleans.
