Major changes have come to the bridge inspection world. While underwater inspection is a small portion of that, the new updates to NBIS must be followed to maintain compliance. Sonar technology still has a place in the UW inspection of bridges, and advances in this technology are helping the inspectors. But is it “compliant” with new standards? This presentation will go through the FHWA updates and how they relate to the use of underwater imaging sonar, and give examples of how different agencies are embracing sonar use for bridge inpsection.
