Onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS) offers something that most decarbonization technologies cannot: the ability to reduce emissions from vessels that are already in the water, without waiting for new fuel infrastructure or next-generation propulsion systems. This session examines how OCCS technology is being deployed today and how it is being designed to scale efficiently into new construction.
The panel brings together multiple perspectives — technology provider, shipyard, infrastructure, and end users — to address the practical realities of implementation. A key focus will be the intersection between onboard systems and landside infrastructure, including how the gap between what happens on the vessel and what happens at port is being managed and what solutions currently exist.
Attendees will:
- Understand how OCCS works and how these systems are being designed for both retrofit and newbuild applications
- Explore the logistical and infrastructure challenges of managing captured CO2 from ship to shore and the solutions being developed to address them
- Hear from end users of captured carbon on how utilization and offtake markets are developing and what role they play in making the economics of OCCS work
