A panel discussion on what it took to open the Fort McHenry Federal Channel following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. CAPT Sal Suarez, the Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, along with his Salvage Director, Mr. Paul Hankins who was the incident’s Salvage Branch Head will team up with Senior Salvage Master Billy Kratz and Assistant Salvage Master Robyn Bianchi from Donjon Marine to discuss the operation. SUPSALV, using their existing East Coast salvage contractor Donjon, was tasked by USACE with removing wreckage obstructing the channel to allow re-opening of the Port of Baltimore to economic activity. The panel will discuss challenges and successes of the FSKB salvage response. The panel will present a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period exploring these successes and challenges. It should be a fascinating exchange, describing how the response unfolded from the first call to the Navy from the Army Corps of Engineers to the completion of opening the 700′ wide x 50′ depth federal waterway to ship traffic.
