Enabling AI in Maritime Systems through Real-Time Connectivity

Dec 03 2025

10:00 AM - 10:45 AM CST

IWBS - Classroom 1, Room R08, 2nd Floor

The next generation of maritime vessels will be smart, adaptive and autonomous – and powered by the integration of AI and real-time connectivity. From autonomous cargo ships capable of transoceanic voyages to remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), smart systems enabled by real-time data flow are beginning to transform maritime transport and exploration, creating a more efficient and secure industry.

Connectivity forms the crucial nervous system for AI implementations, enabling robust, reliable and real-time communication; advanced sensor integration; and seamless data exchange between ship, shore and other vessels. Real-time data enables maritime vessels to operate with unprecedented levels of autonomy and decision-making capabilities for use cases including autonomous navigation, optimized route planning, and enhanced safety through real-time condition updates, risk assessment and collision avoidance.

This presentation will examine a data-centric framework embraced by the US Navy and used by autonomous marine robotic systems for underwater exploration. Through case studies, it will discuss how this approach works with AI systems to deliver robust communication and security to all maritime vessels.
