Digital Logging for Professional Divers
It is essential for the dive industry to have a digital platform for recording, analysis, and sharing of work and skill data that is not only standardized but reliable, secure, and verifiable while maintaining transferability and validity. This presentation introduces an innovative response to the January 2024 publication for Recommended Practice IMCA C019, “Principles for Data Platforms for Work and Skills (Digital Logbooks),” published by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).
Digital ownership, verification of authenticity, comprehensive functionality (with industry-specific dataset entries available), and reliability are vital in the emerging market of digital dive logs for commercial divers. In this presentation, we introduce a proof of concept that answers a gap in these needs, using blockchain technology to enable significant expansion in data collection and compliance, avoiding current challenges faced by physical entry logbooks (size of a physical page, input controls to aid and ensure timely completion, standardize recorded data, damage/loss of information, among others). This platform is highly customizable, meeting requirements currently contained in 17 physical logbooks published by IMCA and beyond (including jurisdiction and subsets of industry requirements). This platform provides the gold standard for identity ownership, authentication, and security while providing a comprehensive platform that can retain, recover, and verify data. This platform offers a solution for individuals, companies, and the industry, allowing for different levels of accessibility with secondary authorization requests, perpetual records of critical data that cannot be manipulated, and a centralized location for records, including training, certifications, job assignments, and beyond.
This interactive proof of concept presentation will introduce to the industry a digital logbook that addresses current needs for secure and comprehensive data management.
