Two years ago Mike set out to inventory and evaluate commercial / open-source hardware and software solutions to problems in MUVs that lend themselves to automation – with the goal to create and execute a procurement, integration and customization, factory and ocean testing, remote telemetry and support system support via missison playback plan. Routine technical project management for things that have existed in other systems for a long time and probably exist here.
His is going in assumption, that it’s all been done before and that buy/adapt Vs build is the right choice didn’t last long. MUVs are low volume, highly customized and sophisticated machines, that are both “like” ROVs and topside systems, but very much unlike them at the same time.
Mike is currently building from scratch a hybrid commercial / custom solution that may at some future point may encompass propulsion, navigation, pilot-assist, dashboard status and alerting and telemetry.
In this talk, Mike shares his experience to date and the going forward roadmap in the hope of saving others time and expense. And also learning himself at the event.
Someone has done this already, eh?
Mike may address, philosophically, the question “why even do this at all?”, if he wanders off script.
