Proficiency in Survival Craft

U.S. COAST GUARD APPROVED MARINER'S LICENSE TRAINING FOR ALMOST ALL LEVELS OF DECK AND ENGINEER LICENSING. WE HOLD YOUR HAND 'TIL IT HOLDS A LICENSE.

Able Seaman Course

U.S. Coast Guard approved course. Ordinary Seaman (OS) or an Able Seaman (AB) rating is required to work on all ocean going commercial vessels of greater than 100 gross tons.

Apprentice Mate Steersman Program

U.S. Coast Guard approved training program.The Apprentice Mate Steersman license is a training license for Mate of Towing.Once the mariner achieves the Apprentice Mate Steersman license he, or she, will continue to work onboard the tug as a deckhand; receive training as a watch-stander under the direct supervision of the mate or master. This is commonly referred to as a “Mate Training Program”.

Basic & Advanced Firefighting

  Sea School has partnered with Pyrotech Firefighting School to offer their Combined Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting course at our Jacksonville, FL campus. This five (5) day training course is developed to fulfill the requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard regulations for shipping and navigation for:   Master of vessels of less than 200 GT in ocean service Master or Mate on vessels over 200 GT Master of Uninspected Towing Vessels oceans Licenses on mobile offshore drilling units Engineer Licenses & Endorsements Tankerman Endorsements   This course covers the knowledge and demonstration assessments that are required for VI/1, VI/3, A-VI/3 of STCW and 46 CFR 13.121.

STCW Basic Training

STCW - Basic Training (BT) - (formerly Basic Safety Training) Seafarer’s employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship as part of the ship’s complement with designated duties in the operation of the ship shall, before being assigned, have completed Basic Training. This is actually four courses:  Basic Firefighting Personal Survival Techniques Personal Safety/Social Responsibility Elementary First Aid The course runs for five days.  All mariners that wish to operate in international waters must show that they are competent in the four areas mentioned.

Bridge Resource Management

This course is required if the mariner is seeking a license greater than 500 GRT. The course meets the IMO-STCW requirement for the upper level licenses. You must be 18 years old and meet the physical requirement stated in the CFR. This course is one of two types. The course is set up as an assessment program in a voyage planning setting. 

Son of a Sea-Cook Cooking School

As the normal shift on a workboat is usually 28 days, Son of a Sea-Cook Workboat Cooking School has chosen to make its Basic Boat Cook (BBC101) course 28 days long. The curriculum of the course includes basic food production, biscuit making, food safety, food service, food management, purchasing, galley safety & sanitation, and group cooking with meat, poultry and seafood. The curriculum is focused on a unique segment of the culinary sciences, with lots of practical hands-on cooking to help students become proficient and efficient in a workboat kitchen. This career focused education, with the emphasis on boat cookery, offers quality hands-on training that is essential to a successful career aboard workboats. This school prides itself on teaching the practical application necessary for successful employment in today’s highly competitive workboat cooking job market.

Maritime Security Awareness

  Ship’s security is one of the greatest concerns for every shipping company whose ships ply the international waters. Though there are advanced systems such as a Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and a Ship Security Reporting System (SSRS) to enhance maritime security, contribution of the crew towards ship security plays a very important role.    Before being assigned to shipboard duties, all persons employed or engaged on a seagoing ship that is required to comply with the provisions of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, other than passengers, will need to take a USCG approved Maritime Security Awareness Course.

ECDIS Electronic Chart Display & Information System

ECDIS stands for ElectronicChart Display and Information System and is a computer-based navigationsystem that complies with all IMO regulations and can be used as the primaryalternative to paper navigation charts.As of December 31st, 2016,all Mates/Masters on ECDIS equipped vessels will be required to haveECDIS training. Sea School is gearing up to protect our alumni well in advanceof the deadline with plans to offer ECDIS training beginning in the fall of2015. The course will satisfy all USCG requirements for approved ECDIS trainingat operational and management levels for all vessels having ECDIS.
