Taisei has been supplying more than 245 automatic tug-barge connecting couplers for sea-going tug-barge system in the world since 1972.

Taisei’s mechanical couplers are classified into two main categories---2-Pin supported articulate connection for AT/B, Series ARTICOUPLE and 3-Pin supported rigid connection, Series TRIOFIX , not permitting any relative motion and getting higher propulsive efficiency.

Now in US, Microgen Inc., a subsidiary of Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is now building 2 ATBs with Articouple FR-35 at
Sneed shipbuilding Inc. in Texas.

Jensen Maritime Consultants in Seattle designed the ATBs. The triple-screw tugs measure 76'x32'x8' with a design draft of 4'. barge will be 200'x50'x9' and 183'x50'x9', both with an operational draft of 4'.
