BMI were awarded a contract for design, manufacture, testing & training of 50 Chilled Water Plants & Pumps for use on board Canada’s 12 Halifax Class Frigates & 2 Navy establishments.

Air Handling Unit Features:

Air Handling Unit Construction:
Enclosure constructed with double wall panels minimizes sound transmission and air leaks, incorporating acoustic and thermal insulation.  All fans, coils and controls are Marine grade.  The units are pre-wired, pipe connections are extended to the exterior, ready for shipboard mounting.

  • Cooling Coil: Two types of cooling coil are available:  Chilled water coil and direct expansion coil.  Cooling coils are made from copper tubes with 4, 6 and 8 rows and high-efficiency aluminum fins.
  • Heating Coil: Three types of heating coils are available: hot water coil, steam coil and electric heater.  
    •    Hot Water Coil :  As standard, hot water coils are made from copper tubes with 1 or 2 rows and high-efficiency aluminum fins.  Other material combinations are also available upon request.
    • Steam Coil :  As standard, steam coils are made from copper or steel tubes with 1 or 2 rows and high efficiency aluminum fins.  Other material combinations are also available upon request.
    • Electric Heater :  An electric heater includes a galvanized steel heater frame, stainless steel heating elements and terminal box.   The heater has controls built into a terminal box which includes automatic and manual reset thermal cut outs.

  • This means that such specification criteria – (eg. severity of duty; space limitations; special materials and surface treatments) - can be incorporated efficiently and at considerably less cost and lead time than a conventional “one off” design approach.
